Effective Sensor Size
25.34mm x 14.25mm (Super35)
Evolving beyond its Mini Pro predecessor, the URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2 Digital Cinema Camera from Blackmagic Design enhances its electronic and recording capabilities, offering an extensive control set and great functionality. Notably, this innovative G2 model boasts a refined Super 35 4.6K sensor, presenting an impressive 15 stops of dynamic range at 3200 ISO, capable of high frame rate recording of up to 300 fps and additional recording features.
The G2 now accommodates external camera controls for easy access to menus, enabling exposure settings adjustments, slow/fast motion activation, focus assist and various other functions. Its exterior houses a monochrome LCD panel, providing essential shooting data instantaneously. A built-in ND (neutral density) filter wheel, offering four varying stops, enhances its professional features. Affordable media options are facilitated by two SD card slots and the CFast 2.0 slots, making it suitable for less demanding recording formats. Further, a user-interchangeable EF lens mount and USB-C expansion port have been integrated to offer direct recording to external drives and ensure proper flange focal distance.
The G2's foundation lies in its acclaimed Super 35mm 4.6K sensor block, revered for capturing cinematic imagery with subtle gradients and a large dynamic range. It's now capable of seizing Blackmagic RAW footage in film and extended modes, increasing its versatility to cater to diverse production needs. Among the most significant updates is its ability to capture footage up to 120 fps in 4.6K, 150 fps in 4K DCI, and an astonishing 300 fps in 1080p, perfect for high-action shots.
As with the URSA Mini, the G2 can record high-resolution raw sensor data in Blackmagic RAW format on CFast 2.0 or SD cards, with a maximum of 60 fps. These raw files retain the sensor's full dynamic range and colour tonality, granting greater post-production control. However, compressed raw recording options are available with 3:1 and 4:1 compression ratios to manage data-heavy uncompressed raw files on set. These retain post-production flexibility whilst conserving space. If raw capture isn't required, the G2 provides ready-to-edit Apple ProRes files in various formats, capturing recording resolutions from HD to 4.6K.
Keeping the form factor of the original URSA Mini, the G2 maintains its ergonomic advantages, compatible with accessories such as the VCT shoulder pad, side handgrip, broadcast battery plate, and EVF for extended shooting comfort. The shoulder pad also accommodates 15mm LWS rods for mounting lens supports, follow focuses, lens drive motors, matte boxes, and more for studio-style shooting.
